We moved here in 2008 and haven't looked back.
When we lived and worked in London we always yearned for walks in the hills and found ourselves coming here more and more.
Searching for accommodation, three words were always in our minds: clean, comfortable, stylish.
We wanted cotton sheets, calm colours, plenty of character, and walks from the door. A location surrounded by the drama of the fells and in the heart of a lively town. The best of both worlds.
So we ended up making Borrowdale House into the sort of place we would want to stay ourselves.
We accept short breaks most of the year because we remember how much easier it was to get away from busy lives just for the weekend - and how much better we felt for it.
Now with three active kids of our own, we know how much Keswick has to offer families. Playgrounds, forest adventures, visitor attractions, messing about on the lake, not to mention those first memorable fell walks. So of course there are highchairs, toys, step stools, cots and stair gates at Borrowdale House.
A few miles south of Derwentwater, the Borrowdale valley is one of the most beautiful corners of the Lake District: a patchwork of ancient oak woodland, dry-stone walls and dramatic crags. The road winds through the famous "Jaws of Borrowdale" to the hamlets of Grange, Rosthwaite and Seatoller, with classic fell walks rising on every side. It's our favourite place to walk, and an easy drive or bus ride from the door.
