offer all our guests/visitors.
Access
Statement for Borrowdale House
Introduction
Borrowdale House is a self-catering property near the centre of Keswick.
It is on a flat road and the short walk to the market square is mostly flat
with just a gentle slope part of the way.
The house sleeps 8 in four bedrooms. Entrance to the house is almost level (just
two 5cm steps to the front door), but there are no bedrooms or bathrooms on
the ground floor.

Pre-Arrival
- The
nearest train station is Penrith, about 30 minutes away by bus. There are
taxi services available from the station to Keswick, and one of them has
its office just over the road from Borrowdale House
(www.daviestaxis.co.uk)
Key
Collection, Welcome and Car Parking
- The keys
are held at a local shop. Guests can also arrange to meet the owner at the
house if preferred.
- There is
on-street parking and this is usually available within a few metres of the
house.
Entrance
to Property
- Two
separate, small steps (450mm) to the front door. Sloped wooden threshold
at the front door.
- Alternative
step-free access at the back of the house.
- The front
door is 825 mm wide and there is an additional internal door which is
800mm wide.
- The back
door is 780mm wide. It gives access to the kitchen and there is then a
760mm wide door to the dining room.
- There is
currently no outside light.
- The light
switch for the porch and hallway is immediately inside the front door.
- The
entrance porch is tiled and the hallway is carpeted.
Halls,
Stairs, Landings, Passageways
- The
minimum width in this area is the stairs, 840mm wide.
- The
hallway, stairs and landings are carpeted.
- There is a
sturdy banister along the stairs.
- There are
two flights of stairs, with an additional set of five stairs between the
half-landing (where both bathrooms are located) and the first floor.
Sitting
Room/Lounge
- The living
room is on the ground floor and is reached via a 780mm-wide door from the
hallway. There are three sofas and the entrance into the room is in
between two of the sofas which are fairly close together.
- The
furniture can be moved.
- There is
wide-screen TV.
- There is a
ceiling pendant light and a floor lamp.
- The floor
is carpeted.
Dining
Room
- The door
from the hallway to the living room is 780mm wide.
- The floor
is carpeted.
- There is
space for a wheelchair at the table. Table height is 720mm.
- The chairs
are without arms.
- There is a
ceiling pendant light and a desk lamp.
Kitchen
- The floor
is on the ground floor accessed from the dining room or the back door to
the yard.
- The door
from the dining room is 760mm wide, and the back door is 780mm wide.
- The
worktop is 920mm high.
- There is a
double oven, with the bottom of the ovens 120mm/380mm high from the floor.
The oven doors open sideways.
- The fridge
has a highest shelf of 670mm and a lowest salad drawer of 130mm from the
floor. There is a separate freezer section above the fridge.
- There is a
single mixer tap at the sink and a cordless 360-degree turning kettle.
- There are
ceiling spotlights and the floor is laminated wood.
Bedrooms
and Sleeping Areas
- Two
bedrooms are on the first floor and two are on the second floor.
- There are
six steps between the first-floor bedrooms and the bathrooms.
- There are
two twin rooms, one room with a double bed (second floor) and one with a
kingsize bed (first-floor). The kingsize bed is fairly low at 340mm from
ground to top of mattress. The other beds are 470mm high.
- The beds
are heavy and it is not recommended to move them.
- The doors
to the bedrooms are 760mm wide.
- The
kingsize room has plenty of space between the bed and the walls. The
first-floor twin room has plenty of space on one side of the beds, none on
the other.
Bathrooms,
Shower-rooms and Toilets
- Both
bedrooms are on the first-floor half-landing. There are six steps between
the bathrooms and the first-floor bedrooms.
- The door
openings to the bathrooms are 690mm.
- The shower
room has a walk-in shower with a 50mm high shower tray.
- Height of
WCs are 400 and 410mm.
- Height of
both washbasins is 810mm and they are both wall-mounted with no pedestal.
- One of the
washbasins has a single-lever mixer tap. The bathroom has classic turning
mixer taps on the basin and bath, with shower over the bath.
- The
bathroom lighting is from a wall light and the colour scheme is neutral,
with little contrast between walls and floor.
- The bathroom
has a painted wooden floor and the shower room floor is tiled in natural
stone.
Garden
- There is
back yard accessible from the street.
- The yard
is concreted and includes a covered area.
- There is a
table and chairs to seat four.
Additional
Information
- The colour
scheme throughout the property is neutral with little contrast between
walls and floor, though the banisters are in dark wood which contrasts
well with the walls and floor.
- The
nearest medical centre is Castlehead Medical Centre, about five minutes
roughly level walk away (www.castlehead.org.uk)
- There is
free WiFi access in the house. There is a landline and limited mobile
phone reception on the second floor.

- I plan to
install outside lighting at the front door of the property.
